Rural Sourcing Project to Recruit Alumni
Rural NebThe NAA is participating in a Rural Sourcing project that could bring alumni back to Nebraska.  In partnership with the University of Nebraska at Kearney and Xpansion LLC, Rural Sourcing was awarded a grant from the Rural Futures Institute (RFI) at UNL’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Rural sourcing involves existing and start-up companies strategically locating operations in rural areas to reduce labor costs and increase employee reliability. “In the pilot phase, we will offer alumni a variety of options to return their families and expertise back to rural Nebraska,” said the project’s principal investigator, Shawn Kaskie of the UNK Center for Rural Research and Development. Read more »

UNL Selected for Life Sciences Program
Academic NUNL is one of 10 institutions in the U.S. to be selected this year for the esteemed Beckman Scholars Program, which provides support for interdisciplinary undergraduate research fellowships in chemical and biological sciences. The award, worth $115,800, will allow the university to provide scholarships over three years. In addition to the award from the Beckman Foundation, UNL will provide matching funds to help support the scholars. Read more »
Football and Physics
Timothy GayAlumni are specially invited to attend the April 5 Nebraska Lecture, “Football: Its Physics and Future” at Memorial Stadium’s West Stadium Club. Physics professor Timothy Gay, a familiar face to Husker fans during his “Football Physics” lessons on HuskerVision in 1999-2000, will explore the physics behind large forces on the field. Gay also will address UNL and national research efforts to understand and mitigate injuries. Complimentary pizza is available at 11:45 a.m. (while supplies last), with the lecture at 12:15 p.m. A live webcast of the event will be available. NMotion Accelerator Launches to Help Move Startups Forward, Faster
Nebraska’s new startup accelerator program, NMotion, brings together capital, connections, and community to help build high-growth software and technology-based startups. The 12-week program offers new startups $15,000 in seed funding, coworking space, hands-on mentorship and training with an opportunity to pitch for additional investment. No more than 10 startups will be chosen for the program, which will take place June through August in Lincoln. The program will culminate in a Tunnel Walk Demo Day for investors and alumni. Applications are open until April 15 for teams to apply. Gordon Gives $1 Million to NU
GordonThe Haymarket Park Baseball and Softball Practice Facility is now the Alex Gordon Training Complex following a generous $1 million donation from Alex and Jamie Gordon. A native of Lincoln and a two-time first-team All-American for the Huskers, Gordon has become one of the top outfielders in Major League Baseball since being drafted second overall in 2005 by the Kansas City Royals. Huskers Qualify for NCAA Championships
NU WrestlingSeven Husker wrestlers will compete in the 2013 NCAA Championships March 21-23 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. James Green, 2012 All-American, will make his second NCAA appearance at 157 pounds after a runner-up finish at the Big Ten Championship. The No. 4 seed, Green is 20-4 this season. Robert Kokesh (174) also earned a No. 4 seed. Kokesh, who finished third at the Big Ten Championships, leads the Huskers in victories, dual wins, pins and major decisions. Devaney Court Named for Pettit
PettitThe volleyball court at the Bob Devaney Sports Center will be named “Terry Pettit Court.” The naming is the result of a generous gift given by Bill and Ruth Scott in honor of former Husker head coach Terry Pettit.  Beginning in 2013, the newly-renovated Devaney Center will be utilized for volleyball, men’s and women’s gymnastics and wrestling competitions. Pettit was inducted into the AVCA Hall of Fame in 2009 and was a two-time AVCA National Coach of the Year, a seven-time Big Eight Coach of the Year and a two-time Big 12 Coach of the Year. Read more »
